Dunhinda Falls – Much Better than Ravana Falls

Sri Lanka is one of the most beautiful tourist spots for the world because of its natural beauty. It has cascades and one of them is Duhinda Falls, is one of the most beautiful and heavy waterfalls in Sri Lanka is also called as Bridal Fall, its shape is like that reflects the bridal veil. This fall has a height of 64 meters. This waterfall is formed by Badulu Oya which then pass through Badulla town. Duhinda Falls is in Badulla, Sri Lanka, which is 4-5 kilometers away from Badulla by passing through B36 road. Duhinda falls gets its name “Duhinda” because of the smoky dew drops around it (Dun in Sinhala means mist or smoke), that adds beauty to the waterfall. You find smoke drops here which surrounds the waterfall and during rainy season its water becomes muddy color and during the dry season, you can go and swim in the water. As you indulge in water activities you will feel your stress or depression is relieved.

How to get there?

You can travel through the bus, private car, taxi or tuk-tuk(rickshaw). If you have a car its good, otherwise travel by bus is recommended and it costs you just 20 rupees per person because this fall is not much away from town. After getting a bus from Badulla bus station it will take around 10-15 minutes to reach the entrance gate of Duhinda Falls. If you don’t want to travel by bus, then go for a tuk-tuk. There are 2 waterfalls, the smaller one is close to the entrance but the main falls is a long treck from the entrance After taking the ticket, you need to walk around 3 Km (40 Minutes) to the waterfall. But the waterfall is just breath-taking. You will not regret after you see the waterfall.

The main attraction for the people is watching the beautiful waterfall view and some adventure, it is amazing. Try not to come one holiday as on holidays many Local Sri Lankan visit it. Better you come on weekdays so you don’t get a lot of crowds here. During your walk, you find many stall vendors here which they provide snacks and drinks at reasonable rates. 

This place is open for the whole year.

Best time to visit this place is recommended early in the morning from 7:00-9:00 am. This place is not crowded, and it takes around 30-45 minutes after a walk to reach towards the fall. Avoid going after 5:00 PM.

Do & Don’ts:


  • Always wear easy clothes so that you enjoy your trip.
  • The path is slippery so wear a good pair of shoes.
  • Take bottled water and some snacks with you.
  • Be sure that you are physically fit for the trip
  • Don’t approach wild animals and their habitat.
  • If you get a chance plant a sapling here.
  • What you take with you don’t litter here, it’s the social responsibility to keep clean public places.
  • If there are any rule and regulation written, then read it first.
  • Take your safety measures with you like a flashlight, compass, pocketknife, etc. in need.
  • If you are a tourist, then respect both cultural values so that you left a positive impression about your country.
