What to Pack for Sri Lanka Trip?

Sri Lanka is a little island situated in the subcontinent. Making your way to Sri Lanka is needless to say a great choice. Sri Lanka has a variety of beaches, off-road, breathtaking landscape and tea plantation firms. In fact, Sri Lanka is famous for its beaches and Ceylon tea.  Sri Lanka has wide ranges of tourists places and unpredicted weather. In addition, it’s also an un-developed county so before travelling to Sri Lanka, be ready to handle and some unexpected circumstances as you will see a completely different world in Sri Lanka which is close to nature but far from the modern world.

Since tourism in Sri Lanka is yet not grown as it should be so there is not much authentic information on the internet. As a reason, many foreign travellers often ask what to Pack for Sri Lany trip. Listed below is an ultimate packing list for Sri Lanka holidays and you should carry maximum of mentioned items for Sri Lanka. Obviously, depending on your interests you may skip some. Please bear in mind I’m not gonna lists some basic things like toothbrush, mobile & sunglasses etc as these are routine items.

Note: I have divided this list into two categories Essential or Optional. You should definitely pack all items listed under Essential.

I’m warning you, you will regret if you don’t carry mosquito repellent in your Sri Lanka trip. Sri Lanka is not a developed country and has many unhygienic problems which excessively support mosquitoes. If you’re planning a trip to Nuwara Eliya, Kandy or Eliyaa (I’m sure you will) use of mosquito repellent become important. You can also buy a local Sri Lankan mosquito repellent product citronella oil from local pharmacies. To accomplish maximum safety, you may have mosquito kit which you might need in urban areas. Obviously, no one can ignore the travel adapter on abroad trip. Sri Lanka operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.In the past several British & Portuguese ruled the Island and their existing sign easily can be noticed just everywhere in Sri Lanka. British style plugin does work in many places in Sri Lanka. However, It’s dos not work everywhere. Power sockets type D, G and M work in Sri Lanka. The best option is to buy below listed universal plugging in from Amazon. Also, it’s advised that you get a local Sri Lankan plugin from Colombo airport when you arrive so in case universal plugin does not work at some point (It might happen), you have something at back up. Below are screenshots of the plugin which works in Sri Lanka.

If the common voltage in your country is in the range of 100V – 127V (as in the US, Canada and most South American countries), you require a power (voltage) converter.

Remember that an adapter is not a converter.

Hand Sanitizer

You might be wondering why I added hand sanitizer in the essential list. Let me tell you a reason behind it.  Many travellers in Sri Lanka loves to explore Sri Lanka by train wherever possible as it an economical, comfortable and offer lots of magical views during the trip. But the issue is  Sri Lanka transport has No International standard toilets neither in train nor at the train station. So Bringing 1-2 bottles of hand sanitizer would be great. Don’t worry compared to India, Sri Lanka has NO LACK of toilets.

(Please Indian don’t take it offensively. Many travellers who have been in India told me that you’ve LACK of toilets even in houses that’s why I mentioned it as you can see I also blamed on Sri Lanka because reality can’t be denied and I want to share accurate details with users.)

Multiple  cards & Cash

To be on the safe side, hold at last two credits card and put them at separate places so  If you don’t drop both at the same time. It’s also highly recommended that you carry $200-300 cash for a backup. Who knows when your bank block your card for accessing from an anonymous location.)p
