One of the highlights of my visit to Mount Lavinia Beach was trying surfing for the first time. The waves were perfect, and the instructors were knowledgeable and helpful. Despite being a beginner, I was able to catch a few waves and experience the thrill of riding the surf. By the end of the lesson, I was hooked and had caught the surfing bug. Thanks to Mount Lavinia Beach, I discovered a new passion and had an unforgettable experience.
Perfect Spot for Sunset
Mount Lavinia Beach is a vibrant and lively destination that offers a unique experience for visitors. While it may not have the same atmosphere as Unawatuna Beach, it has its own special charm that makes it a great place to visit.
What really makes Mount Lavinia Beach stand out is its stunning sunsets. If you stick around until around 6 PM, you can catch some amazing views of the Western Indian Ocean. And if you’re looking for a more relaxed experience, you can try wading in the water up to your hips and building some sandcastles.
One evening, I saw a sunset that was like nothing I’d ever seen before. The sky turned into a beautiful painting, with colors of orange, purple, and pink. It was like the sun was setting on a treasure chest, filled with all the colors of the rainbow!
Safe Swiming
As Mount Lavinia Beach is situated near a residential area, it tends to get crowded in the evenings and on weekends. However, if you’re looking to enjoy the beach during these times, you’ll be pleased to know that the waves are calmer from 4 pm onwards, making it an ideal time for a swim.
But don’t worry about safety – the beach is well-staffed with 5 lifeguards and 2 police officers on duty, providing a reassuring presence and ensuring that you can relax and have a great time without worrying about a thing.
Best season to visit Mount Lavinia Beach for swimming is during the dry season in Sri Lanka, which typically runs from October to End of March. During this time, the weather is usually sunny and waves are calm, making it safer and more enjoyable for swimming and other water activities.
Please note there’s not much parking space near the Mount lavinia beach entrance.
What to Eat at Mount Lavinia Beach?
The beach has lots of yummy food stalls and restaurants! You can eat inside or outside, and feel the cool sea breeze on your face. The restaurants have a wide range of food and drinks. You can choose a restaurant that fits your budget.
You can try fresh seafood, like fish and prawns, and it smells so good! You might also want to try “Isso Wade,” a super popular Sri Lankan street food.
One of my favorite places to eat is a small, family-run stall. They make the best “Kottu Roti” – it’s like a mix of chopped bread, veggies, and spices. The cook’s chopping sounds like music, and every bite is like a party in your mouth! This place feels like home to me because the owners are so friendly, and the food is always fresh and yummy.
The beach is always filled with people, and you can find vendors selling sour mango and manioca chips as well. And along the beach, there are some amazing higher-end restaurants like Lavinia Breeze, Long Feng, Steamboat, and Belize.
