Narigama is the beautiful beach near Hikkaduwa, is a small town on the south coast Sri Lanka situated in the Southern Province which is few kilometers away from the Sri Lanka biggest city Galle. Narigama is a beautiful beach for parties, boating, surfing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, and sunbath purposes. This place is not crowded as compared to Hikkaduwa beach, and you will be experienced in the way you are expecting the trip. Narigama beach has golden sand which adds beauty to this place and water is clear and you don’t find here plastic pollution problem, people here love to clean this beach. Beach provides very beautiful scenes of sunrise and sunsets. A large area is covered by the beach and you find many bars and restaurants here.

The main attraction of visitors is to experience a beach environment, which is quite calm than Hikkaduwa beach, most people came here for peace. This place is not much crowded, and you don’t find a lot of hotels and bars here. This place is best for the tourists’ private trip. People do swimming-related activities for fun. Also, tailoring is the attraction for tourists where they can customize their clothes. This beach is very close to the ocean and visitors experience a lot of turtles here and feed them.

One Downside of this beach is here mobile singles are weak.

How to get there?

You can get around by train, by bus or by road. The bus ride will take almost 3 hours from Colombo. If you want to go by train to Narigama beach there are many railway stations named Rathgama Railway, Dodanduwa Railway, Kumarakanda Railway. After rail traveling, you can get the bus from the respective bus stops near the above-mentioned railway stations, near this beach Hikkaduwa bus stop, Thiranagama bus stop. If you have booked a room near Narigama Beach you don’t to hire any of them, this place is just 15-20 minutes away from your hotel. You can get hotel rooms for less than 20 USD.

The Narigama trip to Galle takes 30 minutes and costs 35 LKR. Bus 388/3 Hikkaduwa to Galle that stops in Narigama,

Best Time:

The best season to visit this place during November and April. If you are planning for water activity, then you should visit between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. For partying nighttime is best to visit from 8:00-11:00 pm.

Where to Eat:

There are many restaurants in Narigama. Most of them serve Sri Lankan local cuisine. Muslims may have issues as It’s not easy to find halal food here. Since it’s a tourist place many restaurant overcharges from tourist especially foreign. Rise and curry normally cost is around150 can bu there it cost about 400 LKR, instead of the usual 150 LKR.

 

Where to Stay?

Homestay is very common here in Sri Lanka. Luckily you can get homestay in Narigama if you do a proper search.  In case you’re a backpacker and can’t afford much there is one new hostel Mali Guest House that hostel charge per night around 1200 (7$). Here is the booking link.
